Principal AI Engineer, Draftkings Inc.
About the Speaker:
Principal Developer Advocate on DraftKings’ AI Platform. I bridge engineering and leadership by translating AI strategy into platform capabilities engineers actually adopt, while carrying the developer voice back into the roadmap.
After 15+ years leading engineering at global scale, I made a deliberate move from running engineering orgs to going deep on the AI platform problem because that is where the leverage is right now. My focus is making AI a dependable, governed part of how teams build software, not a pile of demos.
What I focus on:
I collaborate with LLM vendors including Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic, and evaluate platforms across Gemini Enterprise, OpenAI, and AWS Bedrock. My work spans the modern GenAI stack: LLM gateway, Agentic Identity, Governance, network boundaries, Remote agents, LLM Obs using Datadog and MlFlow, N8N, MCP’s, Agentic Memory, A2A, and Agent development frameworks.
Before DraftKings, I led engineering for Walmart Global Tech’s next-generation cloud checkout platform across five international markets: the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, and Mexico.
AI has speed up code generation, but the rest of the software development lifecycle has not necessarily kept pace. At DraftKings, as we rolled out AI tooling across our engineering org, we saw pressure move to PR review, testing, integration, and release confidence.
This talk shares where those bottlenecks emerged and takes a closer look at DraftCode, our code review agent. Its first version took a diff and returned generic feedback. That wasn’t useful enough. We then worked with the teams responsible for compliance, security, and platform standards to make their rules available to the agent at the global, tool, team, and service levels. I’ll walk through one concrete example, a security rule that flags hardcoded secrets, show how DraftCode applies it, and how reviewers went from catching these issues by hand to having them flagged automatically.
We also tried to build a complete AI-assisted SDLC loop. That approach saw limited adoption because many teams already had tools in place. That experience changed where we put our platform effort: on problems individual engineering teams could not readily solve themselves.
